The purpose of the Troop 474 Website is to promote and strengthen communication between the district, posts, crews, troops, packs, parents and prospective scouters. As such, the website needs to provide timely and accurate information on activities and events. The content and design of the website should reflect the purposes and values of scouting and the unique character of our district.
Advancement information for all of the BSA programs is official only if it comes from National BSA or one of its local councils. Any other source of information is unofficial and should not be used.
In addition to the above, all links on sites that lead to locations outside of domains not owned by this district are not under our control and therefore, neither Troop 474, Mid-America Council, National BSA, or the volunteers that serve in our Troop, District and Council are responsible for the content of such links. Any reference or link to any company, including icons, should not be taken as an affiliation, sponsorship, or endorsement.
If any link is considered inappropriate, in poor taste or against BSA policy, it will be removed upon request. We thank you for visiting our District website and for your support of the programs of the BSA.
Collected Information
Children under 13 should not enter data via this site’s interactive applications.
While we take reasonable precautions to protect the privacy of this information, its security is not guaranteed.
No attempt is made to covertly or “quietly” collect personally identifiable information, nor are cookies or any other tracking technology used for the purpose of coordinating information that a user may opt to enter in various interfaces on the site.
Troop 474 does not share personally identifiable information about its web site visitors with anyone.
Reports, statistics, and other analysis of aggregate anonymous information may be shared within the organization or provided to third parties at the sole discretion of Troop 474 and the Mid-America Council of the Boy Scouts of America. This information does not include any personally identifiable information.
Exception: Troop 474 of the Boy Scouts of America reserves the right to use all information at its disposal and to share this information with ISPs and other third parties as necessary to investigate any incident of misuse or abuse of its site, server, or information systems.
Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) of 1998
This legislation applies only to Web sites of a commercial nature. However, Boy Scouts of America considers it to provide sound advice for any Web site that is intended for use by children.
Therefore, Troop 474 does not use its Web site to collect any personally identifiable information from children under 13 years of age. Any input form that requests personally identifiable information that appears on an interface that is expected to be viewed by children under 13 years of age is accompanied by a notice that submissions cannot be accepted from users under 13 years of age. Where “age” or “date of birth” is requested, no information will be stored or transmitted unless the response indicates that the user is 13 years of age or older.
Providing personal information is never a prerequisite for accessing any of the content or resources on this Web site. Specifically, refusal to provide personal information via a Web interface will never result in a user being denied access to any on-line content or resource he would be able to access were the information submitted.
Photographs
Children’s names with a photo of the child should not appear in this site. If you find a child’s full name with a photo of the child is accidentally placed on a page in this site, please report the error to the Troop 474 Webmaster(s) or to Mid-America Council.
E-mail Addresses and Contact Information
Only e-mail addresses of adult members will be used on the website. The adult members will screen and forward email intended for youth members, parents, and general public as appropriate. The reason for this is to prevent the unauthorized harvesting of email addresses from the website. Even so, contact information for adults will be treated with caution. In general contact information will only be posted at the request of individuals, district staff, or from information collected with the intent of posting online (unit contact information, etc…). Contact information is posted solely to increase communication and disseminate information about joining or supporting the Scouting. Youth email addresses and information will never be posted on site.
Troop 474 Webmaster Policies
The Webmaster is a registered adult member appointed by the Troop 474 Troop Committee. The Webmaster is responsible for the overall design, content, and functionality of the website. The Webmaster is the keeper of the all accounts including, the main account which maintains the functionality and architecture of the website. The Troop 474 Committee may appoint others to assist him or her in updating and making changes to the website and issue accounts to them. Written parental consent is required before youth members may be granted access to any editors-only area. All registered members (scouts or adults) who have website accounts are expected to keep them confidential and to use their access only for the purposes that the Webmaster has designated (“A scout is trustworthy.”).
